If you are looking for a big Belize Resort, or a big Belize Hotel, Coconut Cottage may not be for you. This Placencia, Belize cabana, on the beach in Placencia Village, is your laid back, self-catering home on the Caribbean.

The original Coconut Cottage was opened in March 1995 by fly-fishing legend Joel Westby and his US-expat wife Kay as a two room hotel for Joel's fishermen.

When Joel died in 1996 Kay, who moved to Belize in 1985, stayed and has been running the place ever since. In October 2001, Hurricane Iris destroyed the original cottage and was replaced with the current buildings in Feb. 2002. There is one nicely appointed cottage for rent and Kay lives in the other.

If you like cats, Kay's kitties - Amelia, Fifi and Baby Beluga will be delighted to be your vacation pets! If not they will stay home with Kay.
